Concrete pavers
Interlocking concrete pavers are the most popular walkway choice in Red Deer. They sit on a compacted granular base and sand setting bed, which allows slight movement with Alberta's freeze-thaw cycle without cracking. Individual pavers can be lifted and reset if a section settles. Available in a wide range of colours and patterns including permeable options.
Natural stone
Flagstone walkways use irregular or cut stone set on granular base or in mortar. Natural stone has a timeless look but mortar-set stone is less forgiving of frost movement than a paver base. We typically recommend granular-set flagstone in Central Alberta for better freeze-thaw performance.
Exposed aggregate concrete
Poured concrete with exposed aggregate finish is a clean, permanent option. It is the most economical per square foot of the three.
