Utility locate before anything is dug
Every build starts with a utility locate. Nothing gets augered until the gas, power, and communication lines on your property are marked. It costs us a day in the schedule and it is not optional.
Beyond the 4-foot minimum
Footings are poured sonotubes set below frost. Alberta code requires a minimum 4-foot depth and we go deeper based on your site conditions and soil type. A footing that barely meets code is one hard winter away from movement.
Double rim joist and staggered blocking
The outer rim is doubled, and blocking between the joists is staggered rather than run in a straight line, so fasteners coming in from opposite sides never land in the same piece of wood. Joists run 16 inches on centre as standard and tighter wherever the load asks for it.
Joist tape and sealed cut ends
