Downstairs Bathroom Gutted to a Tiled Shower and Glass Wall

Everything old came out of this room. What went back in was built around a tiled shower, which is a different job from dropping in a surround and a unique one to get right.

The shower is tiled in subway tile with honed natural stone hex mosaic, set over a properly waterproofed base. That is the part of a bathroom you cannot inspect once the tile is on, so it is the part worth doing slowly. A French Monture black-framed glass door with a step closes it in.

The fixtures are where this room gets its character. An exposed antique brass shower system with an 8 inch rain head runs up the wall, dual function, on double knob handles, with an additional removable shower head. At the vanity, we used a wall-mount solid brass lavatory faucet, so the plumbing comes out of the wall rather than through the counter.

The vanity itself is a custom build with a raw, rustic feel to it, carrying a vessel sink. New toilet, mirror, flooring and door finished the room, over new drywall, tape, mud and paint.
